We will learn, prepare, practice, and deliver three different types of speeches: demonstrative, persuasive, and informational. Additionally, we will create slide show presentations using Google Slides to go along with at least 2 of these speeches. This class will also give students guidance and practice in being respectful and attentive audience members.

Timeline History of West Virginia with Grace

It's roughly 1000 BC and the land which is now called West Virginia is the home to the Adena and Hopewell Cultures. In this class we learn the history of our state and her people from the pre-Columbian roots, to the early American frontier days, to statehood, to family conflict between Hatfields and McCoys, to the labor conflicts of the Mine Wars, to post WWII trials and travails. This is a project class, and students will assemble a multi-page file folder timeline.
This is NOT a prep class for the Golden Horseshoe nor WV History Bowl.

Rollercoaster Engineering with Grace

In this middle school early physics class, we'll learn the science that governs the best rides at amusement parks: rollercoasters! Students will learn about the energy and forces needed to make coasters go up, down, and loop-de-loop. This class will involve working in groups to graph out a short rollercoaster design and figure out the math behind it. Then we will use the Pitsco Education Roller Coaster Kit to build and test their designs.
The math in this class includes measuring in imperial system with a tape measurer, timing with a stopwatch, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and simple exponents--we will be using calculators. I'm happy to introduce exponents to your student however, if they struggle with the other concepts listed their adult will be asked to stay in class with them to assist in the math portion which will be the first 10-30 minutes of class.
